Green Government | Chicago Interagency Sustainability Council

What is the Chicago Interagency Sustainability Council?

This forum of Chicago-area agencies provides representatives the opportunity to share green ideas, information and solutions to promote sustainability in the Federal Government. The ISC recognizes the importance of Executive Order 13514, Executive Order on Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy and Economic Performance (EO 13514) Exit Disclaimer, signed by President Obama on October 5, 2009, as well as all prior Executive Orders targeting energy efficiency and sustainability practices in the government. The ISC expects that, through its combined efforts, agencies will be better able to focus on their individual environmental goals as well as collectively archive environmental objectives for the region's federal workforce.

The Federal Government has recognized how its actions impact the nation's resources and with EO 13514 and prior Executive Orders, it has identified the expectations it has for its agencies on being more sustainable and on reducing the cost burden to taxpayers. The purpose of the ISC is to continue the efforts of increasing energy efficiency and other resource conservation efforts at a more local level. It is expected that through our actions to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from our direct and indirect activities that impact our water, materials management and air, Chicago-area agencies can make a real difference for our economy, resources and environment.
